VISTA and Minnesota Operations Program Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW

Working closely with the Program Manager for Community Impact and Director of Member Engagement and Minnesota Operations, the program coordinator will provide both 1) general and logistical support to member engagement initiatives and Minnesota operations and 2) key support to the Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact VISTA program, including member recruitment and selection, member training and support, and site recruitment, training and support. This will include advising the VISTA Leader(s). In collaboration with the VISTA team, this position will also include providing web-based and in-person training, conflict resolution, and compliance monitoring support to partners, managing data collection and reporting, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders including the AmeriCorps VISTA, community-based organizations, higher education institutions, and VISTA members.

Location: The program coordinator position will be based at the Minnesota office at Augsburg University (remote location in Minnesota is an option), and supports programming and reports to staff spanning both Iowa and Minnesota.

Salary:  $40,000-49,000 annually. Full-time (40 hours/week), 12 months, paid hourly. Eligible for comprehensive benefits package (including, medical, dental, retirement, life insurance, and leave policies) available through Augsburg University.

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RELATED DUTIES

VISTA Support (55%): Through the Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA program, members serve in community-based organizations and higher education institutions working to alleviate poverty through community-campus partnerships and capacity building. Focus areas include health, education, and economic opportunity. The program includes 30-40 full-time VISTA members, two VISTA Leaders, and VISTA Summer Associates in both Iowa and Minnesota. This position will support two specific areas of work for the VISTA Program, including the development of campus sites working to support low-income students. Site development will include research on low-income student issues, including food and housing insecurity, cultivating a network of campus contacts working on those issues, and planning events related to this topic.

Related duties include:

  • Onboarding, training, and supporting members
  • Training and communicating with local site supervisors and conducting site visits
  • Recruiting organizations to serve as AmeriCorps VISTA host sites and individuals to serve in AmeriCorps VISTA positions
  • Ensuring compliance with grant requirements and policies
  • Designing promotional materials and conducting social and earned media outreach
  • Completing research and creating website content related to VISTA and key projects
  • Designing assessment systems and reporting models and compiling reports
  • Evaluating program results and implementing program improvements
  • Writing future grants and seeking additional funding

Member Engagement and Minnesota Operations Support (45%): This position will support network building, partnership development, and communication with member campuses for VISTA-aligned initiatives with a significant focus on a current project in Minnesota focused on food insecurity and student basic needs funded through the National Institute for Food and Agriculture. This position will also support capacity for member campus engagement and Minnesota operations, including website and communications support, community of practice support, member campus tracking and data collection, membership renewal, member campus event coordination and logistics, additional grant-funded projects as applicable, and other technical and office operations support as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

Successful candidates for this position must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience in community engagement and/or national service OR an equivalent combination of education, skills, work, and community engagement experience. Please note that experience may include a combination of employment, internship and/or significant community service in a community-based learning environment, higher education, a nonprofit setting, or national service program. Qualified candidates will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong writing and research skills. Familiarity with grant writing is helpful.
  • A familiarity with digital communications skills and related tools, including website management tools (primarily WordPress), databases, graphic design tools (primarily Canva), mass email platforms (primarily MailChimp), and social media platforms (primarily Twitter and Facebook).
  • Comfort using a range of technologies and learning new technologies. Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Zoom is helpful.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage a range of concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, listening, and relationship-building skills.
  • Valid driver’s license for frequent in- and out-of-state travel.
  • Comfort working with colleagues remotely.
  • The position requires the successful passing of both National Service Criminal History Checks and Augsburg University background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with and knowledge of higher education settings.
  • Experience with and knowledge of volunteer recruitment, retention, and training, and community organization capacity building.
  • Experience serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA, and/or a working familiarity with national service programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position is primarily based in an office setting, and requires computer work most days. Some evening work may be required during trainings, retreats, and conferences. Lifting (50 pounds or less) may be required for certain tasks associated with this position. Accommodations are available.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
