Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact is seeking a Program Manager for Community Impact to support the civic mission of higher education by focusing on community impact as a result of campus-community partnerships. This position oversees the Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact VISTA Community Corps and guides the implementation and growth of a community organization affiliate membership program. The VISTA Community Corps has members serving in community-based organizations and higher education institutions working to alleviate poverty through community-campus partnerships and capacity building. Focus areas include health, education, and economic opportunity, including projects focused on college students’ basic needs such as hunger and housing. The program includes 30-40 full-time VISTA members, 1-2 VISTA Leaders, and VISTA Summer Associates in both Iowa and Minnesota. 

Our Program Manager plays an important role in supporting our capacity to uphold the civic mission of higher education and strategic priorities in communities across Iowa. Our current strategic priorities include:

  • Inspire and support action on campuses for social change
  • Connect people across higher education sectors for collaboration
  • Co-create solutions to address community challenges
  • Give voice to higher education’s critical role in communities and democracy

The Program Manager supports these priorities by supervising VISTA sites and member recruitment and leading the efforts of other staff to support these members and programs. This includes guiding collaboration and alignment among program staff based in Minnesota and Iowa, gathering stories and information on the community impact of  Campus Compact programs and members and designing campaigns to publicize the information. This also includes building on previous research to help members and our programs document and describe impact. This position reports to the executive director. This position helps to lead the work of the VISTA Program Coordinator and VISTA Leaders and works closely with Directors of Operations in both states.

Related duties include:

  • Serving as team lead for the VISTA program
  • Convening staff team meetings, collaborating with colleagues,and directing the work of others across geographic distance, including frequent use of online web conferencing technology
  • Designing assessment systems and reporting processes and compiling reports
  • Ensuring compliance with grant requirements and policies
  • Evaluating program results and implementing program improvements
  • Supporting and training members
  • Training and communicating with site supervisors and coordinating site visits
  • Designing promotional materials and conducting social and earned media outreach
  • Recruiting organizations to serve as AmeriCorps VISTA host sites and individuals to serve in AmeriCorps VISTA positions
  • Contributing to writing future grants and seeking additional funding

This position also supports other community impact strategies, including supporting external communications through newsletters and social media. In particular this includes leading the community partner affiliates program:

  • Developing and implementing an annual affiliate engagement strategy in conjunction with other team members
  • Supporting the director of member engagement with tracking and evaluation systems
  • Researching and developing recruitment strategies for new members
  • Supporting the annual affiliate member renewal and recruitment process

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience. Experience may include a combination of employment, internship and/or significant community service in a community-based learning environment, higher education, or a non-profit setting. 

Other desired qualifications:

  • Experience with and knowledge of higher education in general and/or community and civic engagement in particular
  • Experience and/or education in community organizations and/or community organizing
  • Familiarity with learning outcomes and assessment
  • Working knowledge of program and grant management, preferably AmeriCorps programming
  • Working knowledge of volunteer recruitment, retention, and training, and community organization capacity building
  • Working knowledge of anti-poverty efforts
  • Working knowledge of systems of oppression including but not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, and ableism
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts
  • Experience leading staff teams and experience with and/or willingness to develop expertise in leading and working effectively with geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong relationship-building skills and experience with networks
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative with proven organizational and time-management skills
  • Familiarity with necessary technology including Microsoft Office, web site management, webinar platforms and social networking 
  • Upon offer of employment, this position requires successful completion of criminal background checks
  • Ability to travel across Iowa and Minnesota by car frequently and some national travel for events and conferences (must have a valid drivers license, use of rental cars encouraged)
