Equity By Design: A Workshop by Antionette Carroll: Using Equity-Centered Community Design to Co-Create Community-Engaged Projects

Saturday, February 29th, Grinnell College
Joe Rosenfield Center, Room 1010
9:00am to 5:00pm

This workshop is open to faculty, staff, community members/organizations, and students interested in beginning to develop a framework for their own collaborative community projects.  You may already have a project in mind or you might just be interested in beginning to think about how to design equitable, collaborative community projects.

Workshop Description: What are the roles of identity, power, and equity in community-centered collaborations? How might we design equitable, campus – community collaborative projects based on the fundamentals of Creative Reaction Lab’s Equity-Centered Community Design framework?  How do we develop a lens of personal and organizational humility?  In this interactive workshop, participants (community members, community organizations, faculty, and engaged youth) will examine their respective identities and roles as community members and change-leaders by:

  • Learning the fundamentals of the Equity-Centered Community Design framework,
  • Reflecting on history, healing, identity, and power to inform the context of collaboration,
  • Defining the power of oneself and team dynamics in supporting authentic community-led change,
  • Examining how to apply Equity-Centered Community Design strategies and practices to address real-world community challenges more equitably, and
  • Beginning to develop the framework for your own collaborative project.

Space at this workshop is limited. Complete the application here by January 15, 2020 to be considered. If accepted, the cost to participate is $200 per person for Campus Compact members and affiliates (and $400 for non-members).
