Join colleagues with significant responsibility and leadership in civic and community engagement for an interactive day focused on key issues in our day-to-day work. This year, we’re offering this gathering in two locations to be more accessible to colleagues across the state:

Agenda

  • 10-10:30 — Opening
  • 10:30-12 — Community Engagement Professional Competency Resource Sharing
  • 12-12:45 — Lunch
  • 12:45-2:15 — Healing Circles reflective practice experience with Hamline University’s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Center team
  • 2:15-3:00 — Discussion and input on Minnesota and Iowa Campus Compact collaboration

Free of charge to Minnesota Campus Compact members. With questions, contact Sinda Nichols at sinda {at} mncampuscompact(.)org or 612-436-2080.

We will focus on competency areas identified as priorities by this network at the 2018 Minnesota Community Engagement Network gathering. They include:

  1. Ability to communicate an institution’s brand of engagement
  2. Knowledge of civic learning pedagogies (as potentially distinct from community-engaged pedagogies)
  3. Knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods; ability to assess and evaluate impact of community engagement on its stakeholders
  4. Commitment to developing critical consciousness through meaningful praxis (reflection, dialogue, and action)
  5. Ability to construct solid learning outcome goals
  6. Ability to navigate the institution’s political environment
  7. Knowledge of the ways in which students’ identities inform and frame their community engagement experience, particularly those students from historically marginalized groups
